Historiografía sobre los estudios de arte rupestre de la cordillera de Guanacaste y de su llanura costera (Costa Rica)

Abstract

El arte rupestre de Costa Rica ha sido objeto de estu- dios particulares desde finales del siglo XIX, siendo en principio el tema de investigaciones puntuales como resultado de descubrimientos casuales en las diferentes regiones del país. A pesar de los registros sistemáticos entre los años 1960 y 1970 en la cordi- llera de Guanacaste, ubicada en el noroeste del país, no se nota una intensificación de las investigaciones científicas antes de los años 1990. Por lo tanto, el es- tudio temático de esta clase de fuentes arqueológi- cas todavía es un fenómeno relativamente reciente. Analizando el hilo de las publicaciones sobre el arte rupestre de la cordillera de Guanacaste, es posible vislumbrar como los contextos, los enfoques analí- ticos y las técnicas aplicadas han moldeado el cono- cimiento y la interpretación de las representaciones estudiadas en una región transcultural entre Mesoa- mérica y el Área Intermedia.

The rock art in Costa Rica has been the subject of particular studies since the end of the 19th century, being at first the topic of punctual documentations that followed casual discoveries. Despite the sys- tematic registries developed between the 1960s and 1970s, in the Guanacaste Mountain range, located in the northwest of the country, there was no intensification of scientific research before the 1990s. Therefore, the thematic study of this group of archaeological sources is still a relatively recent phenomenon. Following and analysing the thread of the publications on the rock art of the Guana- caste mountains range, one can see how the con- texts, questions, analytical approaches, and applied techniques have shaped the knowledge and inter- pretation of the representations studied in a trans- cultural region between Mesoamerica and the In- termediate Area
